Optimum Energy LLC provides commercial and institutional facilities owners and managers with cloud-based software and services that enable them to optimize the energy efficiency of their HVAC systems. Optimum Energy uses patented, comprehensive mathematical models to process thousands of operational variables, enabling HVAC systems to automatically and continuously adjust operating parameters to lower energy usage, reduce carbon emissions and significantly lower operating expenses.
OE has extensive experience optimizing a variety of building types and sizes including large, multi-building projects, datacenters, hospitals, labs and district cooling projects. Our solution has been deployed in more than 100 facilities across the globe. Optimum Energy has compiled a comprehensive, cloud-based database with over 120 years of operating data that provides the company with unique historical measurement and verification reporting and analysis capabilities. The OE solution is installed at the Mineta San José International Airport, The Rockefeller Groups’ Time-Life Building, the University of Texas at Austin, GSA Thomas F. Eagleton US Courthouse, and a variety of Fortune 100 corporations among others.
History
More than 10 years ago, iconoclastic engineer Tom Hartman recognized the energy wasting nature of buildings’ HVAC systems and set out to develop a smarter solution. He succeeded. The Hartman technologies reduced buildings’ HVAC electricity usage by up to 60%. The only problem: the solution was delivered using an engineering service model, which meant only four to five buildings could be done per year. Nathan Rothman, a Seattle entrepreneur, met Tom while doing due diligence on energy efficiency opportunities in the HVAC industry. This was the catalyst for founding Optimum Energy.
The Opportunity…
How could this engineering solution be delivered in higher volume to hundreds and eventually thousands of commercial buildings worldwide? It was clear the skills of the Seattle commercial software community had to be tapped. Enter Jim Hanna. Jim knew from previous ventures that to be scalable the solution had to be delivered via a standard software appliance that was easy to add to existing HVAC systems.
The Formula for Ultra High Performance HVAC was Born…
- Use enterprise software development methods to create reliable, high-volume optimization software for commercial building owners.
- Deliver the software in a standard platform to create an optimization appliance that easily connects to existing Building Automation Systems.
- Utilize standard interface and protocols for ease of interoperability with standard HVAC controls.
- Create a web-based measurement, verification and management tool that ensures energy efficiency results persist over time.
Today, Fortune 100 corporations, large universities and college campuses, scientific and research institutions, healthcare facilities and others rely on the Optimum Energy solution to deliver continuous commissioning that maintains energy optimization year after year. Founded in 2005, Optimum Energy is headquartered in Seattle and has offices in New York, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.
